ENERGY-ONLINE

Home

Energy-Online is a distance-based educational program that offers the possibility to obtain a Masters degree in Energy Technology entirely off-campus. All course activities can be followed online. In certain courses, however, traditional written exams are used and the students are supposed to find an exam proctor/invigilator at their location in order to sit the exams.

Energy-Online enables the students to aquire or enhance their knowledge in the field of sustainable energy engineering, provides a good overview of today's and tomorrow's energy realities and sustainable energy solutions, and corresponds to state-of-the-art distance education.

Energy-Online is offered in joint cooperation among five Swedish universities. The official language throughout the studies is English. There are no restrictions related to geographical location of students, gender, religion, or age. A BSc-equivalent degree in a field related to engineering is required in order to get admitted, see under Eligibility.

The study program provides, after successful completion, a relevant Master degree issued by the university of Gävle, depending on the chosen length of studies. Both a 1-year (Master of Engineering) or a 2-year (Master of Science) versions of the program are available, see below or go to "Program Outline".

The following partner universities participate in the program and can or cannot issue a final degree:

University of Gävle: Master of Science, or Master of Engineering "Energy-Online"

Royal Institute of Technology (KTH): no degree presently possible

Linköping University: no degree presently possible

Uppsala University: no degree presently possible

Umeå University: no degree presently possible

Energy-Online combines courses in Energy Technology offered within the established international Master-level study programs at each of the participating universities. It is adapted to students of various backgrounds and gives a broad foundation of basic knowledge plus some advanced skills in certain specialization areas. Most courses are run in parallel for on-campus and off-campus students, while certain course events or entire courses may be tailor-made or have special editions for online students. The study program is flexible, and changes or improvements in course structure and contents may constantly occur. Each course is run independently by one of the participating universities and may differ completely in registration procedures, online teaching tools, exam arrangements, etc.

There are two tracks of possible Master level studies within Energy-Online, as follows:

  • Master of Engineering (MEng), also called Magister in certain countries: 1 year of full-time studies (60 ECTS credits).
  • Master of Science (MSc): 2 years of full-time studies (120 ECTS credits) - including all compulsory courses from the MEng curriculum plus free-choice specialization courses.

The application process is explained under "Application Procedure". By default, the applicant is admitted first only to the 1-year program, and after successful completion of the first year gets the option to graduate with a MEng degree or to continue towards the MSc degree, if desired.

NOTE: Tuition fees for non-EU/non-EEA students are being introduced in Sweden starting from intake 2011, in the order of 8000 € per academic year. The specific details are not established yet.
