Background

Traditional laboratory exercises designed to give students a better understanding of theoretical concepts are often very useful platforms for the development of novel pedagogical techniques, especially in combination with internet-based tools. This will allow students from all around the world to obtain practical experience, even if they do not have access to expensive laboratory equipment.

To this end the  Division of Heat and Power Technology at KTH is developing remotely controlled laboratory exercises.  I-Labs partners , KTH, Sweden, Stanford University, USA and Learning Lab Lower Saxony (L3S) work together in the I-Labs project, sponsored by the Wallenberg Global Learning Network.

Objectives

The ultimate objective is to further enhance the flexibility of existing selected lab experiments by allowing for remote control operation from nearly any location at a freely chosen time.
