A backcasting and exploratory scenario approach using LEAP-OSeMOSYS

A new peer-reviewed paper by Emodi, Chaiechi and Rabiul Alam Beg , from James Cook University , Australia, was published on Applied Energy (Elsevier). The paper investigates potential energy reduction policies and climate change scenarios for the Australian power sector by applying approaches from combined backcasting and exploratory scenarios. The Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning tool (LEAP)  and OSeMOSYS are employed as modelling framework. The results pinpoint economic and environmental pitfalls and benefits of emission reduction policies and carbon taxes. The authors conclude that future low-carbon transition policies for Australia should rely on clean energy substitutions and innovative policies, with a pace dictated by climate change scenarios.
