Climate resilience of power systems in East Africa
KTH researchers publish in Nature Communications
A new research article , published in Nature Communications, explores the climate resilience of power systems in the Eastern African countries. The published work was lead by KTH researchers Vignesh Sridharan,Oliver Broad (KTH/UCL), Abhishek Shivakumar and Prof Mark Howells, in collaboration with researchers from MIT, IEc,RAND and SEI. In this study, a framework consisting of long-term models for electricity supply and water systems management was developed to assess the vulnerability of potential expansion plans to the effects of climate change. For this study, the Open Source energy Modelling System (OSeMOSYS) was used to develop the electricity sector projections. The results published in this article are part of a larger study, funded by the World Bank group, exploring the resilience of Africa’s energy and water sectors.
