October 1: Startup of new EU-project Civis

Published Oct 30, 2013

The project is about how to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to decrease energy use and CO2 emissions in cities. Civis is a three year, 4,46M€ project with ten partners, including KTH, Aalto, Imperial College, Karlsruhe IT, TU Delft, TNO, ENEL, IST and REPLY, under the leadership of Trento RISE. From KTH, the Division of Applied Thermodynamics and Refrigeration will participate, as well as the School of Computer Science and Communication.

The project will use Hammarby Sjöstad as one of the test sites for evaluating new technology and new methods of influencing behavior. The project also has a social dimension, as ICT allows interaction between energy-networks, computer networks and social networks. One important purpose of the project is to find methods of facilitating donations of the energy savings to people in need, and this gives a very special perspective to this project compared to other similar ones.
