Saman Nimali Gunasekara has been appointed as the new Director of Dig-IT Lab at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, succeeding Jonas Anund Vogel, who is moving on to a new role as a consultant at TechSeed.

Saman Gunasekara has been part of Dig-IT Lab since its inception, serving as task force leader for networking and visibility and research theme leader for sector coupling. She is also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Energy Technology, with experience in thermal energy storage, district heating and cooling, and flexible sector coupling.

“The people are my main motivation – a unique mix of industry, academia, and research institutes from Sweden and abroad,” she says. “I see Dig-IT Lab as a facilitator and incubator, contributing to key innovations in the digitalisation of the real estate sector that are critical for achieving climate neutrality and sustainability.”

She emphasises that the centre will continue building on the strong foundation established under Jonas Vogel’s leadership, with a focus on strengthening collaboration with partners and turning industry needs into concrete action. Key initiatives such as Testbed Xn, including the already operational Testbed X1, will continue to connect research and innovation, alongside ongoing work in areas such as data security, sector coupling, regulation, and sustainability.

Dig-IT Lab will maintain its role as a platform for collaboration between academia and industry, supported by initiatives like Diggin Discussions and a continuous dialogue with stakeholders to ensure that research aligns with real-world needs.
