The Energy Modelling Platform for Europe (EMP-E) 2019

Published Nov 05, 2019

Brussels, October 8 - 9th

On October 8 and 9 the third edition of the Energy Modelling Platform for Europe (EMP-E)  took place in Brussels hosted by the European Commission DG Research and Innovation. The conference aims to provide a forum for discussion between the energy modelling community and policy makers from the European Commission (EC). As in the first two editions, the EMP-E brought together scientists from all over Europe as well as from outside the EU, including Asia, Africa and the America's. It gave opportunity for intense discussion focusing on how to decarbonise the European Energy supply, the communication between energy modelling community and policy makers, and the need of open science. Several OSeMOSYS-EU wide projects were presented, including excellent work from TU Berlin , the REEEM.org  and others. A key take away is that such formats for direct discussions among policy makers and scientists are much needed as ambition is high. A shout out goes to the people involved in the MEDEAS  project who organised this years version together with DG Research , DG Clima , DG Energy  and others. We are looking forward to EMP-E 2020, organised by the openENTRANCE . For more info, see www.energymodellingplatform.eu .
