World Water Day 2020: “If climate change is the shark, then water is its teeth”
KTH researchers Vignesh Sridharan, Eunice Ramos, and Abhishek Shivakumar illustrate the interdependencies between climate systems and the water cycle in a Nature communications blog post.
This year’s World Water Day was dedicated to the intrinsic link between water and climate change. The Nature Sustainability Community was asked to contribute to the discussion by prompting its readers to submit their reflections on the topic in the form of a blog post. KTH researchers Vignesh Sridharan, Eunice Ramos, and Abhishek Shivakumar used findings, from ongoing and completed CLEWs projects at KTH, to illustrate the interdependencies between climate systems and the water cycle. The post highlights the need for planning processes to effectively integrated these interrelations in the design of policies and strategies. The history of the world water day dates back to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992. Since then, 22 March is commemorated as the World Day for Water.
