Research Seminar: Scaling Transformative Change

The scale of the climate crisis challenges us to think, organize, and act differently. To do so, we may need to think differently about the process of scaling transformative change. Drawing on the IPBES Transformative Change Assessment , this talk will focus on the importance of engaging with the practical, political, and personal spheres of transformation. Our guest, Karen O'Brien, will discuss the role of “fractal agency” in scaling equitable and sustainable transformations, and why our actions matter more than we think.

Karen O’Brien is the Zennström Visiting Professor in Climate Change Leadership at Uppsala University, Sweden, and a Professor Emerita of Human Geography at the University of Oslo, Norway. She is also co-founder of cCHANGE, an organization that works with society to support transformative change for a just and sustainable world.
