CLEWs to support the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions

Published May 31, 2018

Workshop in Addis Ababa

On April 26th, the workshop ‘Climate, Land, Energy and Water strategies (CLEWs) to support the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to Climate Action’  took place at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) premises in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Representatives from UNECA and from the Ministry of Energy of Sierra Leone attended the workshop. Researchers from KTH division of Energy Systems Analysis presented newly developed CLEWs models of Sierra Leone and Ethiopia to illustrate the potential synergies and trade-offs in the use of energy resources, land and water while planning the transformation of the energy sector in the decades to come. The discussions held during the workshop allowed the local experts to provide detailed feedback on the models and scenarios and established a collaboration which will lead to the full transfer of the model infrastructure, data inputs, results and modelling capacity. The workshop established a format for a capacity transfer process in integrated resource management modelling which can be expanded to other Sub-Saharan Africa countries.
