Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development

A three week OnSSET  training was held at the second OpTIMUS Summer School on Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development, which took place at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics  (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. Participants from Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean attended the workshop, which was held by KTH-dESA in collaboration with the World Bank .

The training covered lectures and hands-on sessions on topics such as geospatial data collection and processing, and electrification modelling using the OnSSET tool. By the end of the training the participants developed and presented their own national case studies, two of which were also presented during the High-Level Meeting held on June 28th and 29th.

This was the first OnSSET training using open-source GIS software, making the whole process from data collection and processing to electrification modelling open-source. Overall both participants, organizers and trainers were very happy with the outcomes of the workshop, and hope to see new developments and application of the OnSSET tool in the future!
