Energy modelling and OSeMOSYS training in Tunisia

On December 3rd to 14th, 2018, the first training of the project 'Modelling of the Tunisian energy sector', funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) within the action 'Appui à la mise en oeuvre du Plan Solaire Tunisien', took place in Tunis. The training was co-organised by GIZ, Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tunis (ENIT) and KTH and delivered by KTH-dESA researchers Francesco Gardumi and Agnese Beltramo. Its goal was to introduce local stakeholders to the basics of energy systems analysis and modelling with OSeMOSYS. Developed in self-standing modules according to standards established within the OpTIMUS.community, it took participants through theoretical concepts and their step-by-step application to simple and more complex case studies. The main outcome of the training was the creation of a basic electricity system model of Tunisia, which all stakeholders will further develop and couple to macro-economic models throughout the project. Along with this outcome, open access teaching material and modelling tools were transferred. 20 participants took part to the training, from several institutions involved in energy research and planning in the country, such as: Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tunis (ENIT), the utility STEG, Ecole Polytechnique de Tunisie and Faculté des Sciences Économiques et de Gestion de Nabeul.
