Launch of North-Western Sahara Aquifer System nexus assessment project

The North-Western Sahara Aquifer System nexus assessment project was launched on 27th Jan 2017. The launch meeting, held in Tunis, discussed the project plan in detail and also the expected outcomes of each milestone. KTH-dESA, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), will provide the technical support and lead the implementation of the nexus assessment. The project, led by the Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med), is part of a broader initiative ‘’Making Water Cooperation happen in the Mediterranean” which aims at making tangible advancements on priority issues of sustainable water resources management at regional and transboundary levels in the Mediterranean with a focus on the MENA region. The meeting, organised by GWP-Med, was attended by the focal points from Tunisia, Algeria, representatives from the Sahel and Sahara Observatory (OSS), UNECE and KTH-dESA.
