New capacity building effort using OSeMOSYS initiated by GIZ in Tunisia
With the support of experts from KTH-dESA
On October 4th, the kick-off meeting of a new capacity building project took place in Tunis. The project, funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), aims to build capacity in energy and economy modelling in Tunisia, to support the implementation of the Tunisian Solar Plan and the transition to a low-carbon, resilient and secure energy system. KTH-dESA will lead the capacity building activities as the international expert team and train a Consortium of local universities and institutions in the application of OSeMOSYS for the scope. The Consortium includes among others ENIT (École Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tunis), STEG (major state-owned energy utility) and ANME (Agence Nationale pour la Maîtrise de l'Energie) and receives inputs from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines. The training aims to fully transfer the modelling capacity to local experts, especially PhD students, and guide them through the development of an in-house energy-economy model of the Tunisian energy system based on OSeMOSYS. The kick-off meeting focused on defining the key policy questions to be investigated through the modelling activities. KTH-dESA head and researcher , together with the Coordinator of the local consortium, prof. Chiheb Bouden, led the discussions.
