Assessing the long-term impact of demand response in energy planning in Portugal

A new article  by João Anjo et al. has been published in the Journal of Energy, using OSeMOSYS  as a modelling tool for developing the electricity system model of Portugal and asses the impact that demand response solutions can have on long-term energy planning in the country. The paper focuses on investigating how demand response could help to balance demand and supply, particularly when a significant share of variable renewable energy sources are in place. Results show how demand response can contribute to reduce overall costs for the system and support a higher share of renewable sources in the electricity generation mix.
