Mapping key indicators of onshore wind energy in Sweden by using a geo-spatial methodology

Sweden is well committed to increase wind energy penetration in the country. However, detailed indicators for effective deployment of wind electricity in the country are scarce. KTH-dESA researcher Shahid Hussain Siyal and colleagues have conducted a GIS based assessment of wind energy in Sweden, under technical, topological, social and economic constraints. Key outputs included the necessity for a flexible national electric grid able to absorb large quantities of unpredictable wind electricity as well as the need for increased communal awareness and acceptance of wind projects.
