OSeMOSYS used as energy modelling tool in a World Bank publication

The Ocean economy in Mauritius : making it happen, making it last

In the recent publication by the World Bank , the potential of Ocean Economy in contributing to Mauritius long-term sustainable development was assessed. In this context, OSeMOSYS was used as quantitaive modelling tool for investigating the role that ocean-renewable energy technologies (O-RET) can potentially play in reducing the country's dependence on fossil fuels and contributing in lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The energy model developed for Mauritius was based on a previous Climate-, Land-, Energy-, Water (CLEW) model of the country. Two alternative scenarios were developed, together with the business as usual: one based on the current development plan for the energy sector, the other assuming even higher O-RET and other renewable technologies uptake. The main results support investments in O-RET, showing their positive effect both on the overall economy of the country and in support of the job market.
