Rural electrification options in the Brazilian Amazon A multi-criteria analysis

Published Apr 14, 2014

A new publication available on Energy Access in the Brazilian Amazon

In Brazil, the government recognized energy access as a citizens right. Throughout most of Brazil, that right has been accomplished. In the Brazilian Amazon, however, due to the long distances to be covered among settlements and the very particular topography of the region, many villages still lacks energy access. This research explored how different technologies could provide energy access to the population in the Brazilian Amazon. We find that renewable and hybrid energy systems present a number of advantages for application in isolated areas of the region.
