Second training in the CLEWs modelling framework in Bolivia

The second training workshop in CLEWs was held in La Paz Bolivia, from 16 - 20 April. The workshop, organised by UNDESA and UNDP, focused on enabling the participants with practical knowledge on the use of the CLEWs analytical model, which is developed in OSeMOSYS. The development of capacities in the use of the integrated modelling framework is expected to support policy coherence for sustainable development at an inter-ministerial and transdisciplinary level. Participants were engaged in hands-on exercises with the CLEWs framework, exploring key policy areas of interest to the Government, namely; i) energy exports; ii) bio-fuels production; iii) water quality and treatment; iv) introduction of gas-to-liquids technology, and v) agricultural modernization. At the end of the workshop, preliminary results from the scenario modelling exercises were presented. Twenty-eight government officials from 11 institutions participated in the workshop. Institutions represented included Social and Economic Policy Analysis Unit part of the Ministry of Planning and Development, the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Transmission System Operator, the National Electricity Supply Company, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service, the state-owned oil and gas company, the Ministry of Rural Development and Land, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and staff from the UNDP-CO. KTH-dESA PhD student  was part of the training team that conducted the workshop.
