Soft-linking OSeMOSYS with top-down Input-Output

Published Aug 20, 2018

Assessing the economic and environmental impact of future energy scenarios for Egypt

A new study  was presented at the 26th International Input-Output Conference  that took place in Juiz de Fora (Brazil). It illustrates how soft-linking a bottom-up energy system model developed in OSeMOSYS with an Input-Output model (IOA) can provide a more comprehensive and holistic understanding of the economic and environmental implications of possible future energy scenarios, particularly in developing countries. The suggested methodology has been applied to the case study of the Egyptian energy system. The outcomes of the study highlight how greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions from the energy sector only might not be sufficient to reach the country targets. Instead, it might be beneficial to direct investments in efficiency measures targeting different economic sectors (i.e. industry, services, transportation).
