Third CLEWS workshop in Bolivia

The third workshop on CLEWS was held in La Paz, Bolivia from 10-14th September. The training is part of a capacity building program implemented by UNDESA in collaboration with the Social and Economic Policy Analysis Unit (UDAPE) to build capacity in the use of the CLEWs framework for sustainable development policy analysis among an inter-institutional team of government officials. KTH-dESA supported the implementation of the workshop, which was organised by UNDP and UNDESA. A transdisciplinary and interministerial team of national experts participated in the training from several institutions: UDAPE, the Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD), the Ministry of Environment and Water (MMAyA), the transmission system operator (CNDC), the National Electricity Supply Company (ENDE), the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI), the state-owned oil and gas company (YPFB), the Ministry of Rural Development and Land (MDTyR ), the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and UNDP Bolivia. Land systems were the focus of the third edition of the workshop. Participants were engaged in hands-on scenario development with the CLEWs framework, exploring key policy areas of interest to the Government, including i) land use, water use and emission impacts of the new biofuels law; ii) impacts of new multi-purpose dam constructions; iii) agricultural modernisation and iv) trade in agricultural products. On the final day, the preliminary results from the scenario modelling exercises were presented. KTH-dESA PhD student  was part of the training team that conducted the workshop. The CLEWs model being developed in the capacity building activities uses the model generator OSeMOSYS and the MoManI interface, which development is supported by UNDESA and UNDP.
