Third Energy Systems Modelling Workshop in Asuncion, Paraguay

In collaboration with the UNDESA and Paraguay´s Ministry of Planning for Development

KTH Division of Energy Systems Analysis, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and Paraguay´s Ministry of Planning for Development (STP), conducted the third (final) Energy Systems Modelling workshop at the headquarters of the Vice Ministry of Mines and Energy (VMME) in Asuncion, Paraguay. The workshop, held on the week of October 30th -Movember 3rd, counted with the participation of 15 government officials from several ministries and agencies (STP, ANDE, VMME, ITAIPU Binacional, MIN, POLI/UNA). The final workshop built on the OSeMOSYS energy systems model developed for Paraguay during the first two trainings on 07-11 August and 18-22 September. The participants had hands-on sessions on developing various scenarios related to the substitution of fuels in the residential sector, investments planning in the power generation sector and analysis of the transport sector. Jaszín Gustale (Vice Minister of Inclusive Economic Growth of the STP), Roberto Fariña (Director of Energy Resources of the VMME), Victorio Oxilia Dávalos (Director of the Research and Postgraduate Department of the Polytechnic Faculty of UNA), and Gerardo Blanco (Director of the Energy Systems Research Group of the Polytechnic Faculty) attended in the closing day where the participants presented the results of their work. The capacity building activities aim at strengthening the analytical and energy modeling skills of the participants in correspondence with Paraguay´s Energy Policy and National Development Plan. KTH dESA researchers , , and  were the instructors of the workshops, along with Thomas Alfstad (Inter-regional Adviser) from UNDESA and Silvia Ulloa from UNDP.
