UNECE releases an informative summary of key lessons

Published Oct 25, 2018

Implementation of the “nexus approach to transboundary cooperation - the experience of the water convention”

The UNECE has recently published a summary of lessons from the implementation of the nexus approach in the context of transboundary river basins. The transboundary nexus assessments started in 2013 and had covered river basins in Southern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Currently ongoing is the nexus assessment of the North Western Sahara Aquifer System. Apart from a summary on interlinkages, key nexus challenges, trade-offs and solutions, in the brochure, it is also highlighted the importance of the nexus approach to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. KTH-dESA has been collaborating with the UNECE from the first nexus assessment and contributed to the development of the UNECE transboundary nexus assessment methodology, which is strongly supported by multi-stakeholder participatory processes.
