ACCLIMATE

Strengthening national and international climate strategies by providing actionable, science-based pathways that align with the goals of the Paris Agreement and support a just and green future.

Background

Climate pledges often fall short in ambition, clarity, and feasibility. Many countries face structural barriers, limited technical capacity, and complex trade-offs between development and decarbonisation. ACCLIMATE, funded by Horizon Europe, addresses these gaps by integrating robust modelling, stakeholder co-creation, and equity-driven analysis. Aligned with the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals, the project brings together researchers, policy experts, and national stakeholders to design integrated pathways that are technically robust, socially just, and politically feasible.

Aim and objectives

The project is structured around seven interconnected Work Packages that reflect its integrated and transdisciplinary approach. Each WP contributes to developing actionable, science-based climate strategies through co-creation with stakeholders, advanced modelling, and in-depth policy analysis.

KTH Division of Energy Systems contributions are concentrated in WP 3, with the objective of enhancing the capacity of national teams to develop and assess climate mitigation and adaptation strategies and integrating climate resilience into pathway design. This includes methodological guidance, technical modelling improvements, and scenario development for EU and non-EU countries.
