Our division is proud to present several contributions at SolarPACES 2025 in Almeria. From laboratory prototypes to EU-funded demonstration projects, our researchers are actively engaging with the international CSP community, sharing results, and fostering collaborations for industrial heat decarbonization.

Are you attending? Be sure to stop by and connect with us! Not attending but still curious? Feel free to reach out to learn more about our projects.

SolarPACES conference

Here's the lineup of our team's contributions to the SolarPACES program:

Oral Presentations

  • Salvatore Guccione will present "Optimization of an Air-Driven Hybrid PV-CSP Plant for Power Generation and Industrial Heat Decarbonization" on Thursday, September 25 at 16:30 (with Delight Ezeh, Silvia Trevisan, and Rafael Guedez). Conducted within the Horizon Europe SHARP-sCO2  project, this study focuses on optimizing an air-driven hybrid PV-CSP system for two applications: generating electricity through a supercritical CO₂ (sCO₂) power cycle and delivering industrial heat at temperatures above 600 °C. The work builds on a collaboration with ODQA to develop the case.

  • Konstantinos Apostolopoulos Kalkavouras will present "Laboratory Prototype of a Double-Layered Radial-Flow High-Temperature Packed Bed TES" on Wednesday, September 24 at 11:45 (with Salvatore Guccione, Delight Ezeh, Silvia Trevisan, and Rafael Guedez). Also developed within the SHARP-sCO2  project, this study shares results from testing a novel TES prototype built at the KTH solar lab , designed to provide high-temperature energy storage solutions for CSP and industrial heat applications up to 800 °C.

Poster Session

  • Taras Koturbash will present two studies on Wednesday, September 24 at 18:30:

    • "Experimental Investigation of Vertical Electrical Super-Heater Design for Olivine Particles in CSP" (with Silvia Trevisan and Rafael Guedez).

    • "Experimental Investigation and Optimisation of Flow Dynamics of Gravity Moving Bed Electric Heater for Olivine Particles in CSP" (with Carolina Myrvoll, Ellen Turås, Quentin Lannoy). This work was carried out together with Carolina and Ellen — formerly KEX students and now SEE  students — as well as Quentin, an internship student from France.

  • Tanima Sharma will present her poster "Environmental Impact Assessment of CSP-PV Hybrid System with Cascade PCM TES for Heat and Power Applications" onTuesday, September 23 at 17:30. Conducted within the EU-funded HybridPlus  project, the study evaluates the global warming potential of different CSP-PV hybrid systems with cascade PCM TES, benchmarking them against state-of-the-art alternatives.

Additional Involvement

  • Rafael Guedez will take an active role throughout the conference:

    • Moderating the plenary panel "CST for Process Heat" on Tuesday, September 23 at 15:45, with panelists Joakim Byström (CEO, Absolicon), Miguel Frasquet (CEO, Solatom), Henk Ants (CEO, Suncom Energy), Gedz Karaça (CEO, odqa), Will Gardner (COO, FPR Energy), and Joachim Krüger (President, Estela).

    • On Thursday, September 25, Rafael will first present the EU projects Solarsco2ol  and SHARP-sCO2  during the CST4ALL side event at 9:25, and later chair the "Hybrid Systems" track at 16:30.

The research in CST-TES within our division is carried out as part of several ongoing projects — SolarSCO2OL , FLUWS , SHARP-SCO2 , DETECTIVE , PRINCESS , COMHPTES , UP-FLEXH , eLITHE , SCO2OP-TES , and Powder-to-Power  — funded by the European Commission and the Swedish Energy Agency.

We're excited to share our work and connect with the SolarPACES community — and this year you can also meet us at our booth! Stop by to discover some Swedish surprises, try out our interactive game, and learn more about our ongoing projects. We’ll also have information available about open positions  and our educational programs . Don't miss the chance to come by, say hello, and start a conversation with us.
