Mapping hydrogen production at Ovako
Background
Ovako has built one of Europe's largest facilities for fossil-free hydrogen production. The facility is estimated to be in full operation at the end of November 2023.
Currently, all parameters are theoretically calculated values. In order to be able to run the facility optimally, the real values of energy and media flows need to be mapped. The mapping includes electricity, water, lye, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and cooling water.
Task description
The goal of this thesis is to get a good picture of the plant's performance in different operating cases. With the help of this, proposals will be drawn up on how the facility should be run optimally and integrated into the rest of the business.
An extensive amount of data is logged using IBA and ABB-Freelance.
Prerequisites
We are looking for you who have an interest in hydrogen production, we help to ensure the quality of data before and during the degree project.
Expected outcomes
- Mapping of energy and media flows in the existing hydrogen plant
- If time permits, give a proposal for how the facility should be run
Preliminary workplan
- Initial internship at the Hydrogen plant in Hofors
- Gain an understanding of the logged signals from the Hydrogen plant - with the help of experienced people at OVAKO
- Start analyzing the large data sets with the program of your choice
- Mapping of energy and media flows
- Report on the mapping
- Suggestions for how the facility should be run
Duration and arrangement
As a student, you will be located in Hofors together with experienced project managers who work according to Six Sigma methodologies.
- Thesis 30 credits, Jan-Jun 2024 at Ovako in Hofors.
- Compensation according to Ovako's group-wide regulations.
